Shawnigan Lake, BC: As the Environmental Appeal Board hearings into South Island Aggregates (SIA) contaminated soil dump are underway, the people of Shawnigan Lake are taking their message to Premier Clark and Minister Polack's front door.
On Thursday March 27th from 9am-11am the SRA along with staff and students of Shawnigan Lake School as well as a range of community members and groups will rally on the Legislative precinct in Victoria.
"The issue of allowing a contaminated soil dump to be placed on a slope above our community drinking watershed given the conflicting science and degree of risk to our water supply is beyond comprehension. Our community is raising over $200,000 to fight this decision in front of the EAB yet our Premier and Minister of the Environment, who are reponsible for protecting us and our families from harm, remain in support of big business and remain silent" says Calvin Cook, SRA Acting President.
The SRA invites the general community and all interested parties to join us in opposition and make your voice heard at this peaceful rally.
