Shawnigan Lake, BC: There has been a noticeable increase in vandalism and removal of "Save our Shawnigan Water" signage over the past few weeks. The most recent example was the tagging of the 'Welcome to Shawnigan Lake Water Protection Area' sign on Shawnigan Mill Bay Road that was 'tagged' by spray pain with the letters 'sia'.
"We do not know who the culprits are in this rash of vandalism, however, one thing is clear - their behaviour and actions are not acceptable" states SRA Director Anne Marie Thornton.
Despite rising tensions over the SIA Contaminated Landfill Permit the SRA believes there is an expectation that members of our community can respectfully voice their opinions. The SRA is appealing to the public to report any suspicious activity to the RCMP.
