We would like to make you aware of a survey you will be asked to complete on our water shortly. The survey is an effort by the CVRD to learn about resident’s attitudes around water. It aims to provide the CVRD with information that would be useful in shaping programs and policies that best reflect residents’ needs and wants.
In addition to learning about Shawnigan resident’s knowledge and attitudes towards water quality issues, a key purpose of the survey is to learn how resident’s value potential future water quality improvements. This is done through a series of “choice” questions in which respondents are asked to indicate whether they would support a hypothetical program to improve water quality.
The survey design is being led by an environmental economist and researcher at Brock University, with cooperation from water experts at the University of Victoria, among others. We have been advised “this initiative is happening at no added cost to residents, and is a great opportunity” to take advantage of the expertise being offered. The SRA supports this initiative in principle and looks forward to reviewing the results, as well as proposed improvements that derive from it.
