Malahat First Nation Questions Minister Polack on Science

In a dramatic shift, the Malahat First Nation Chief and Council have raised concerns with Minister Polack on the validity of the science being relied upon on the SIA toxic soil dump.

In a letter to the Minister on December 9th 2015, the Malahat Nation has requested clear and decisive evidence from the Province on their decision to grant the SIA permit.

As land owners adjacent to the property and a council and administration committed to environmental stewardship, the Shawnigan Residents Association applauds the efforts being taken under the new Chief and Council.

"Clearly the Malahat Nation, like so many others, are demanding answers related to the science and decision making involved in the SIA permit are being called into question" states SRA President Calvin Cook. Cook goes on to state, "We stand behind the Malahat Nation on their request which echoes our position in the court"

The Malahat Nation (letter attached) has raised issues with the Minister that demand answers - which she likely cannot answer. It is time the Premier holds the Minister accountable her decisions and the risk she has accepted for the people of Shawnigan Lake.
